Blackadder to Make an Appearance in Series 5 of Doctor Who?

The Sun broke the story today that Richard Curtis, the creator of British comedies Blackadder, The Vicar of Dibley and Comic Relief is set to write a new episode of Doctor Who starring Matt Smith.

About the Doctor Who episode, Curtis teased that:

"There will be a monster. And a famous historical figure will battle the monster."

The rumours flying around are that the famous historical figure making its Doctor Who appearance could be Sir Edmund Blackadder – a character played by Rowan Atkinson - that appeared in four series (one for each time period: Middle-Ages, Elizabethan Era, Regency and WWI). The series ended about 20 years ago.

Whether or not this will happen is still a matter of conjecture. Moreover, if the character does make an appearance, the question remains which of the incarnations will be used, or will we get a brand new Sir Edmund Blackadder? Since only real historical characters have appeared in Doctor Who, this bit should be taken with a grain of salt.
